To Andrew G., the only living relative of Wiera Gran, with thanks for his kindness and remembrance and with best wishes from Poland, the country Ms. Gran indentified with and regarded as hers.
This recording is presented straight from the 78rpm record that I once received from the artist; the title is denoted as "ORCHIDEA" and the name of the singer - Wiera GREEN (!).
So, we can hear the real voice here of the very young artist, still a little 'stiff', perhaps from "the microphone fright"; the girl (!) was not fully aged 19 at that moment.
I have tried to describe the dramatic events of her life - most known to me from the first hand - a few times, which may be found as commentaries to my earlier Wiera's YT videos, on the CDs "Legendarna Wiera Gran" and "Stare Polskie Tango 1929-1939"; and in Wikipedia.
This is to my great satisfaction that those two Polish artists - Wiera Gran and Pola Negri, a little neglected by contemporaries, yet deserving great attention - are coming back to us; with only regret that it happens when they are not any more among us.... -
Thanks to Daniel for the musical support and presentation of the original recording of "Orchids in the Moonlight".
Record, sound and all visual documentary - JP's, author's of the video archives.
"It's a sin to have such slim, pale palms as you have
It's a sin to have such warm lips, as you have..."
Tango recorded for Syrena-Electro - the very first recording session made by Wiera Gran in the beginning of 1934, when she was aged not fully 18.
And her first recording pseudo: Sylvia Green ("management of the recording company decided about all those details, our names included" - revealed Miss Gran much later to me; on the other occasion added, however: "Sylvia was that name that I liked then, so much...".
The record itself has a few "poor moments" technically; one of them, by the end of recording I decided even to show - just to amuse my kind visitors-collectors...:-))
