In anii ’60, Moldova devine un laborator militar.
April 12 - World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day.
On April 12, 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin made the first orbital flight around the Earth aboard the Vostok-1 spacecraft. The flight, which lasted 108 minutes, was a huge advance for the field of space exploration.
The 27-year-old Gagarin made the first television broadcast from space, becoming the first cosmonaut to be awarded the rank of major general and Hero of the Soviet Union.
April 12 was designated by the International Aviation Federation - the International Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics.
May 14, 1981 – the first Romanian cosmonaut
Dumitru Prunariu is the first, and the only, Romanian who has ever flown into outer space.
He participated in the Soyuz 40 mission within the "Intercosmos" space program and spent 7 days, 20 hours and 42 minutes in space. On April 12, 2011, Dumitru Prunariu was decorated by Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, in a ceremony that marked the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight.
Moldovans, in reality, have never flown into space, but their participation in the development of science was and is, indeed, very important.
It all started with feeding tubes for Yuri Gagarin, the first cosmonaut, who was launched into orbit around the Earth in 1961 and therefore the first man to eat in space.
During the USSR era, juices, fruit purees and vegetable sauces were prepared in Moldova, at the Institute of Food Industry, using sublimation technology, the method of removing moisture from fresh products.
Thus, during the Soviet period, Moldovan enterprises produced food products and special pencils for cosmonauts, in a more or less secret way, so that even today it is very difficult to find more specific information.
Some of the mentioned objects are exhibited in the "Cosmonautics Museum" in Chisinau, hosted by the Children's Technical Creation Center, founded during the Soviet Union by Nelia Kirilov, leader of the Young Cosmonauts collective.
Moldovan products, intended for Russian cosmonauts, have removed some essential obstacles that stood in the way of exploiting extraterrestrial space.
In the 60s, Moldova becomes a military laboratory.
After the first flight into space, in the Republic of Moldova, especially in Chisinau, various enterprises and institutions with a military profile were created: "Mezon", "Sciotmaş", "Mikroprovod", "Topaz" as well as a series of research institutions scientific with a secret theme - НИИЦЕФТ, КНИИЭП, ВНИИТ.
Every day, almost ten thousand people produced special purpose electronic equipment, developed projects in the field of on-board computer systems and power sources for aircraft. Moldova, then placed second in the list of countries that worked for the field of cosmonautics. At the same time, in the 60s, aviators from the military detachments of the Ministry of Defense were selected from our country to be trained in the field of cosmonautics. They were: Victor Gorbatco, Vasile Ţibliev, Vladimir Dejurov, Anatol Berezovoi, Iurie Ghidzenco, Eugen Hrunov and Iurie Malencenco, the last one standing out for the fact that he played his wedding in the cosmos, connecting from space with his wife who was during that time on Earth.
Today, several exhibits that keep the memory of those times alive can be found in the Chisinau Cosmonautics Museum.
